John Milton, poet and writer, died in 1674 but his memorial in Poet's Corner was not erected until 1737. He has a memorial window in St Margaret's church.

The ashes of Sir Henry Irving, actor, lie in Poets' Corner. John Henry Brodribb (1838-1905) assumed the surname of Irving by royal licence in 1889.
