Westminster Abbey’s annual Civic Service was held on Sunday 4th July 2010

The Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, welcomed The Lord Mayor, and Deputy High Steward of the Abbey, Councillor Judith Warner and other City of Westminster councillors to Westminster Abbey for the Civic Service on Sunday 4th July.

The service is held annually to mark the historic links between Westminster Abbey and Westminster City Council.

The Bidding was given by the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, Dean of Westminster, who also pronounced the Blessing. The Address was given by the Lord Mayor’s Chaplain, the Reverend Gary Bradley.

Lessons were read by the Leader of Westminster City Council, Cllr Colin Barrow (Philippians 4: 4-8) and the Lord Mayor (Matthew 7: 13-20).

Prayers were led by the Reverend Michael Macey, Minor Canon.

The service was sung by the Choir of Westminster Abbey conducted by the Organist and Master of the Choristers, James O’Donnell. The organ was played by Robert Quinney, Sub Organist. Music before the service was played by James McVinnie, Assistant Organist.
