The Freedom of the City
Sunday, 23rd November 2008
The Ship’s Company of HMS Westminster exercised its ‘Freedom of the City’; an honour granted to them in 2005, by marching from Horse Guards, led by a Royal marine Band, to attend a Matins service at Westminster Abbey.
Lessons were read by The Lord Mayor of Westminster, Councillor Louise Hyams (Isaiah 52:7-10) and Commander Kenneth Houlberg RN, Commanding Officer, HMS Westminster (Luke 19:29-38).
The preacher was The Reverend Martin Poll RN, Chaplaincy Team Leader, Portsmouth Naval Base. Prayers were led by The Reverend Ian Wheatley, Staff Chaplain to The Chaplain of the Fleet.
