The Chennai Books Project

A lunchtime concert was held in St Margaret's Church on Thursday 30th March by some of the Lay Vicars of the Choir of Westminster Abbey.

The Lay Vicars performed music for Lent, including the Lamentations of Thomas Tallis and some solo works. Robert Quinney, Sub-Organist of Westminster Abbey, performed an organ solo and accompanied some of the pieces.

The concert was held in order to raise money, through a retiring collection, for the Chennai Books Project. Dr Wesley Carr, when he retired, discovered that a problem of "down-sizing" from a Deanery to a retirement house was that a new home had to be found for many of his books. That home is to be the Library of the new Lay Institute of Theological Education, currently under construction in Chennai, India. With the help of the USPG it is hoped to transport the books to India in the near future.

The concert was a great success.
