Robert Quinney appointed Director of Music at Peterborough Cathedral

Commenting on the appointment, Charles Taylor, Dean of Peterborough, said:

We are delighted to have been able to appoint one of the most distinguished young church musicians in the country. The gifts Robert will bring this post will greatly enrich the musical life of the cathedral, the city and region.

Robert Quinney said:

After eight immensely enjoyable and rewarding years at the Abbey it will be difficult to leave, but the prospect of new challenges within a similarly supportive institution is very exciting. The music at Peterborough Cathedral has been developed with great skill and clarity of thought over the last eight years by Andrew Reid (my predecessor both at Peterborough and as Sub-Organist here), and I look forward to continuing that work in collaboration with the Dean and Chapter, the King’s School, and my new musical colleagues. My appointment heralds a new chapter for my family; Cecilia, Bea, Xander and I shall miss the many friends we have made here.

James O’Donnell, Organist and Master of the Choristers at Westminster Abbey, said:

Robert has been an outstanding Sub-Organist of the Abbey. He has made a vitally important contribution to the musical and liturgical life of the Abbey, and has played a key role in the continuing development of the Abbey's music. I have enormously enjoyed working with such an able and supportive colleague. In congratulating Robert and wishing him and his family every blessing and happiness in their new surroundings, I know all my colleagues in the Abbey Choir and music department will want to join with me in expressing our deep gratitude for eight years of excellent and rewarding music-making.

The Dean of Westminster, John Hall, said:
