New Canon joins Westminster Abbey

The Reverend Jane Hedges was installed as a Canon of Westminster Abbey at Evensong on Saturday 28th January.

After the Abbey's Legal Secretary Christopher Vyse read out the legal Mandamus, the document from the Queen which confirms her appointment, Canon Jane read the Latin Declaration, the formal acceptance of her post as Canon of Westminster.

Educated at Durham University and Cranmer Hall, Durham, Canon Jane, who now becomes Canon Steward, served a curacy at Holy Trinity with St Columba, Fareham in Hampshire from 1980 to 1983. She then became Team Vicar in the Southampton City Centre Team Ministry from 1983 to 1988 before becoming Diocesan Stewardship Advisor in Portsmouth Cathedral.

Since 2001 she has been Team Rector in the Honiton Team Ministry in Devon and also Rural Dean of Honiton since 2002.
