Death of Brother Roger
Friday, 19th August 2005
The Dean and Chapter of Westminster have been shocked and saddened to hear of the violent death of Brother Roger, founder of the Taize Community.
At this sad time for the community, they are remembering them in prayer. Brother Roger was a truly inspiring pioneer of ecumenism and a great gift to the churches. The following prayer was used by the Taize community the day after this tragic event:
Christ of compassion, you enable us to be in communion with those who have gone before us, and who can remain so close to us. We confide into your hands our Brother Roger. He already contemplates the invisible. In his footsteps, you are preparing us to welcome the radiance of your brightness.
In London, a special memorial service for Brother Roger will be held at 7.00pm on Tuesday 23rd August at St Mary's, Somerstown, Eversholt Street, London NW1. All are welcome.
