Archbishop of Canterbury at Ascension Day Eucharist

The Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend and Right Honourable Justin Welby, made his first formal visit to Westminster Abbey when he attended the Ascension Day Sung Eucharist on Thursday.

The Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, welcomed His Grace to the Abbey and said:

We look forward wholeheartedly to supporting your ministry and your mission.’ The Archbishop said: ‘This great church has been at the centre of so much of our history in time of celebration, or tragedy and of crisis. Your strength is to be able to project the light of Christ at all times and in all circumstances.

The Reverend Dr James Hawkey, Minor Canon and Sacrist, presided at the Eucharist and the Dean preached.
