Abbey treasures celebrated in Librarian’s new book
Wednesday, 6th August 2008
Treasures of Westminster Abbey, the third guidebook commissioned by Westminster Abbey Enterprises Ltd from Scala Publishers, was launched on Thursday 31st July in Jerusalem Chamber.
The Short Tour and Souvenir Guide have been available for some time and are already popular with visitors.
Treasures of Westminster Abbey, which has been written by the Librarian Dr Tony Trowles, is a more detailed guide to the monuments and other historic artefacts; lavishly illustrated with colour photographs, many of them specially taken for the book.
It also has a full index and newly-drawn plans showing the locations of the monuments (including those in the cloisters).
Tony Trowles said:
I have been working on Treasures of Westminster Abbey for about two years so it is great to see the finished product at last.
We tried hard to produce a book which is full of authoritative information about the Abbey but is also fantastic to look at.
I hope people will think we have succeeded on both counts.
The Dean, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall said:
It is an extraordinarily comprehensive and well-written guide with beautiful illustrations, Many people will be as delighted as I have been to use it.
