Abbey pays tribute to ‘The Few’

The Abbey paid its annual tribute to ‘The Few’ of RAF Fighter Command who distinguished themselves during the Second World War’s Battle of Britain in 1940.
The Dean officiated, assisted by the Rev Graeme Napier. Air Chief Marshal Sir Glenn Torpy, Chief of the Air Staff, and Wing Commander K. A. Lewis, Officer Commanding No 1 Squadron Royal Air Force, read the lessons.
The Reverend Peter Mills, Chaplain in Chief of the Royal Air Force, preached the sermon.
The Fighter Command Silk Ensign was borne by Flight Lieutenant L A Vardy, 32 Squadron Royal Air Force Northolt, escorted by Flight Lieutenant T. J. Maddock, 72(R) Squadron Royal Air Force Linton-on-Ouse, and Flight Lieutenant K. Terrett, 43 Squadron Royal Air Force Leuchars.
