A Service of Thanksgiving for the Life of Lord Dahrendorf of Clare Market KBE FBA was held at St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey, at 12 noon on Tuesday 3rd November 2009.
Lord Dahrendorf, who died in June aged 80, was a liberal sociologist whose reputation, mindset and loyalties transcended national boundaries.
An authority on class divisions in modern society who served as a European Commissioner, he was director of the London School of Economics from 1974 to 1984, and had the rare distinction of belonging to both the German and British parliaments.
