Crafting the Abbey tour
Uncover the history and meaning behind some of Westminster Abbey’s rich material heritage in this special tour for London Craft Week.
For over 1,000 years, generations of crafts people have worked on building and enriching Westminster Abbey. The beautifully carved stonework, elaborate windows and intricate floors not only give the Abbey character but also play an important role in conveying messages about faith, legacy and nationhood.
This special tour will highlight a handful of the many beautiful examples of craftsmanship that can be found in Westminster Abbey. Over the course of an hour, you’ll have time to examine the little details and unpick the layers of meaning that can be found at every turn.
