Sir Mark Rylance to lead Shakespeare celebration
Sir Mark Rylance will lead a company of actors bringing the plays and poetry of William Shakespeare to life at a special event in Westminster Abbey, in partnership with Shakespeare’s Globe.
Performances of All Places that the Eye of Heaven Visits will be held in the Abbey on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd April. Audience members will be invited to move through the Abbey, encountering actors performing Shakespeare’s iconic words at points including the tombs of Richard II and Henry V and Shakespeare’s memorial in the south transept.
Speaking about the event, Sir Mark said: ‘Join us for two nights only, as we create a beautiful and unexpected world within this sacred space. Consider the war-weary soldier or the hapless lover, behold a great Monarch or bide awhile with a lone and prayerful soul as you explore the famous Abbey on this special evening. All Places that the Eye of Heaven Visits is a collection of fleeting and intimate encounters with Shakespeare’s drama, poetry and song beneath the soaring ribs of London’s tremendous Westminster Abbey.’
Friday 21st April at 6.30 pm and 8.15 pm
Saturday 22nd April at 6.30 pm and 8.15 pm
The Cellarium Café and Terrace will be open until 10.00pm on both evenings.
