Overview

Use this detailed lesson and accompanying teacher's notes to explain tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. Explore examples of tolerance and intolerance in relation to the Abbey, before thinking about the Golden Rule and asking pupils to create their own version. This could be taught in isolation, in a series with the other British Values lessons or before a British Values guided tour at Westminster Abbey

Learning objectives

  • To be able to explain what tolerance is
  • To understand examples of tolerance and intolerance throughout history
  • To think about tolerance today by creating a new version of the Golden Rule
