Overview

Examine the differences between rules and laws, considering how they affect daily life. Using Westminster Abbey as a case study, this lesson and accompanying teacher's notes explores historical examples of setting rules and changing laws. Pupils will then have the chance to design the rules for their own board game. This could be taught in isolation, in a series with the other British Values lessons or before a British Values guided tour at Westminster Abbey

Learning objectives

  • To be able to explain what the rule of law is
  • To understand examples of rules and laws throughout history
  • To think about rules today by designing a new board game
