Special Service remembers Armenian Martyrs of 1915

HRH The Prince of Wales, His Excellency Serzh Sargsyan, the President of the Republic of Armenia and His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, attended a Special Service to celebrate the lives of the newly-sainted Armenian Martyrs of 1915 at Westminster Abbey on Wednesday 28th October 2015.

In Henry VII's chapel at Westminster Abbey there is a monument to John Sheffield, 1st Duke of Buckingham. The wax effigies of his wife Catherine and two sons can be seen in the triforium

Grand Duchess Elizabeth
A statue to this modern martyr, Grand Duchess Elizabeth of Hesse-Darmstadt, was unveiled in July 1998 and stands above the west entrance to Westminster Abbey.

The ashes of Air Chief Marshal Hugh Caswall Tremenheere Dowding, 1st Baron Dowding of Bentley Priory, are buried in the Royal Air Force chapel.

In the west aisle of the north transept is a memorial for George Montagu Dunk, 2nd Earl of Halifax, politician. The monument is of marble.

Mary Tudor was the daughter of Henry VIII and Katherine of Aragon. She was crowned in the Abbey on 1st October 1553 and lies buried with Elizabeth I.

Nicholas Rowe
Poet and Playwright
Nicholas Rowe, Poet Laureate and dramatist, was buried in Poets' Corner. His monument was moved to the triforium and can be seen there.

Henry III
Henry III rebuilt Westminster Abbey from 1245 and has a large tomb with an effigy in St Edward's chapel.

Actor
On the west wall of Poets' Corner is a monument to the famous actor David Garrick, not far from his grave. By H. Webber.

In the north ambulatory is the grave of Brian Duppa, Bishop of Winchester. His nephew, Sir Thomas Duppa, is buried in the north choir aisle.

Anne was crowned in the Abbey on 23rd April 1702. She is buried with her husband Prince George of Denmark in a vault in the Lady Chapel.

Diplomat
Ludovic Stuart, Duke of Richmond and Lennox, and several members of his family are buried in a vault in the Lady chapel at Westminster Abbey. He has a large monument.

William Pitt the Elder and his son are buried in the north transept of Westminster Abbey. His wax effigy is on display in the triforium.

James I and Anne of Denmark are both buried in Westminster Abbey. But neither has a monument. Their funeral effigies still remain in the Abbey collection.
