Library collection
Today’s library was established after the Abbey was founded as a collegiate church in 1560. It has been in the former monastic dormitory since 1591.

George Hickes
Writer and Priest/Minister
The Reverend Dr George Hickes, writer and linguist, was buried in St Margaret's church on 18th December 1715 but he has no monument or gravestone.

On the south wall of St Margaret's church is a cartouche to Peter Newton, attributed to sculptor Joshua Marshall, originally positioned north of the altar.

William Strong, independent minister, was buried in Westminster Abbey in July 1654 but his body was disinterred after Charles II was restored to the throne.

Abbey Sub-Dean appointed Dean of Durham

The Venerable Andrew Tremlett, Sub-Dean of Westminster and Rector of St Margaret's Church, has been appointed Dean of Durham. He will take up his new post at Durham Cathedral in the summer. He succeeds the Very Reverend Michael Sadgrove who retired in September.

Her Majesty The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh attended a Service of Thanksgiving for the Life and Work of the Rt Hon The 1st Earl of Snowdon GCVO in St Margaret's Church on Friday 7th April. They were accompanied by the Duke of Cambridge, the Duke of York, the Earl of Wessex, the Duke of Gloucester and the Duke of Kent.
