Westminster Abbey honours Sir Ernest Shackleton

A memorial stone to Sir Ernest Shackleton, one of the most celebrated Antarctic Explorers of the twentieth century, was dedicated at Westminster Abbey on Thursday 15th February 2024.

In the north transept is a brass plate over the grave of Lt. General Richard Philipps. He was born in Pembrokeshire in 1661.

Thomas Livingstone, Viscount Teviot

In the north aisle of the nave is a monument to Thomas Livingstone, Viscount Teviot. He was buried near the entrance to the Quire.

Anne, Dowager Countess of Clanricarde is buried in the centre of the nave. A large monument to her stands in the north aisle.

In the north cloister is a memorial tablet to Henry Otway Mayne, Indian Army. The marble tablet was repaired and slightly altered in 1960.

In the north west tower chapel in the nave is a memorial bust to John, 1st Earl Russell (formerly Lord John Russell), Prime Minister.

In the west aisle of the north transept is a monument to physician Sir Clifton Wintringham. This shows a mourning woman leaning on a sarcophagus.
