• Wreath laying marks Lord Kelvin centenary

  Representatives from the University of Glasgow today laid a wreath at the grave of Sir William Thomson, Baron Kelvin of Largs, in the nave of the Abbey to mark the centenary of his death.

• Mrs William Quartermain

  The wife of Dr William Quartermain, one of the King's Physicians, was buried in "the south part of the cross aisle" i.e. south transept.

• William & Henry Bentinck

  Several members of the Bentinck family are buried in the Ormond vault at the eastern end of Henry VII's chapel in Westminster Abbey.

• William & Alexander Buchan

  Dr William Buchan is buried in the west cloister with his son Alexander. There is a marble tablet with a relief portrait on the wall.

  Engineer

  The memorial window to Sir William Siemens was taken down in 1926 so that a series of windows depicting kings and abbots could be erected.

  Prince William is the eldest son of Charles, Prince of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales. He married Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey in 2011.

  In the nave south aisle is a marble memorial to statesman and author Sir William Temple, his wife Dorothy, daughter Diana and sister Martha Giffard.

  In the chapel of St Nicholas is the tomb of William Dudley, Bishop of Durham. The Purbeck marble altar tomb has lost the brass effigy.

  William de Humez became Abbot of Westminster on 4th May 1214 and was buried in the south cloister. His worn effigy still remains.

  Sir William Trussell was buried in St Michael's chapel in Westminster Abbey. A legacy was received from him by the Abbey sacrist in 1346-1347.

  A memorial to chemist Sir William Ramsay was unveiled in the north choir aisle on 3rd November 1922 by the Duke of York.

  The body of William Mauduit, 8th Earl of Warwick was buried in Westminster Abbey; the location is unknown. His heart was buried at Catesby Priory.

  Dr William Turner, singer and composer, was buried with his wife in the west cloister. For the coronation of James II he wrote two anthems.

• Sir William Payne-Galwey

  Sir William Payne-Galwey is buried in a vault in St Margaret's church. He has no inscribed gravestone and unfortunately his wall tablet is now obscured.

  William Britten (or Bretton) was a Canon of Westminster and was buried in 1552. No marker remains for him.

  Scientist, Musician, Mathematician and Astronomer

  A memorial stone to William Herschel, astronomer and musician, was unveiled in the nave in 1954. The grave of his son Sir John is nearby.

• William Thompson Elliott

  Priest/Minister

  The Reverend William Thompson Elliott was a Canon of Westminster from 1938-1940 and his ashes are buried in the vault in the lower Islip chapel.

• Sir William Elphinstone

  Lawyer

  Sir William Elphinstone (Elphinstoun or Elveston) was buried in the east cloister of Westminster Abbey on 10th December 1645 but his grave is not marked.

• Sir William Dodson

  Sir William Dodson was buried in the south aisle of the nave. He was a woollen draper of St Paul's churchyard and Alderman of London.

• Michael William Balfe

  Musician and Composer

  In the north choir aisle is a memorial to composer Michael William Balfe. This consists of an oval medallion with a profile bust.
