Families celebrate Christmas at royal carol service

The selfless efforts of those who support children and families in communities across the UK were recognised at the Together at Christmas carol service in Westminster Abbey on Friday 8th December.

Dean and Priest/Minister

Richard Neile was Dean of Westminster from 1605-1610 but he has no memorial or portrait at the Abbey, being buried in York Minster.

Horatio, Viscount Nelson

One of the best likenesses of the great Admiral, Horatio, Viscount Nelson, is his wax effigy in the triforium galleries at Westminster Abbey.

Frances Sidney, Countess of Sussex

Philanthropist

In the chapel of St Paul is a large monument, about 24 feet high, to the memory of Frances Sidney, Countess of Sussex.

Charles James Fox & Henry V. Fox, Lord Holland

Writer, Statesman and Abolitionist

Charles James Fox, statesman, has a monument in the nave. Henry Vassal Fox, 3rd Baron Holland, his nephew, has a large monument behind that to Charles.

A Service of Thanksgiving and Rededication to mark the 83rd anniversary of the Battle of Britain was held at Westminster Abbey on Sunday 17th September 2023. His Majesty The King was represented at the service by Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton.

On the wall of the north cloister of Westminster Abbey is a marble tablet with a sculpted coat of arms to Owen Wynne.

In the south aisle of the nave is a memorial with bust to Zachary Pearce, Dean of Westminster. The monument was erected in about 1777.

Margaret Douglas, Countess of Lennox

Margaret Douglas, Countess of Lennox, was buried, at the expense of Elizabeth I, in the south aisle of Henry VII's chapel in Westminster Abbey.

In the chapel of St Andrew, is a very large monument to the memory of Henry Norris (or Norreys), 1st Baron Norris of Rycote and his wife.

Dr Edward Willes, bishop of Bath and Wells, was buried in the north ambulatory, together with his wife Jane and sons Edward and Sir Francis.

In the chapel of St Edmund in Westminster Abbey are two monuments to John, Lord Russell and his daughter Elizabeth.

William Pitt the Elder and his son are buried in the north transept of Westminster Abbey. His wax effigy is on display in the triforium.

In Henry VII's chapel at Westminster Abbey there is a monument to John Sheffield, 1st Duke of Buckingham. The wax effigies of his wife Catherine and two sons can be seen in the triforium
