  Stanley Ho and his wife Lucina were generous donors to the Westminster Abbey Appeal for the restoration of the Lady Chapel. Each has a window.

• Sir Humphrey Bourchier

  Soldier

  Sir Humphrey Bourchier (or Bourgchier) is buried in St Edmund's chapel. The Purbeck marble altar tomb once had a brass figure on it.

  Sir Humphrey May, politician, was buried "on the north side of the Chapel of Kings" (ie.the north ambulatory) in Westminster Abbey on 11th June 1630.

• Anne Stanley, Countess of Ancrum

  Lady Anne Stanley, Countess of Ancrum was buried in the chapel of St Nicholas on 15th February 1657 but she has no gravestone remaining.

• Humphrey and Thomas Persehouse

  Thomas Persehouse (or Persehowse) and his son Humphrey were buried in the south cloister of Westminster Abbey. They have no markers.

  Edward Bulwer Lytton was buried in St Edmund's chapel. He was born in London, a son of Colonel William Earle Bulwer and Elizabeth Lytton.

  In the chapel of St Benedict is a stone tablet set beneath the carved head of a monk. The sculptor was Albert Siegenthaler.

  Musician and Composer

  Musician and composer Pelham Humfrey is buried in the east cloister near the door into the church. The inscription on his gravestone has worn away.

• Warburg grant secures final funding for Cosmati restoration

  Thursday, 27th August 2009

  As the Cosmati pavement enters its final phase of conservation, a charitable foundation has awarded the project a surprise grant of £215,000 which has secured the final funding for the restoration process. The donation was the gift of 'Sir Siegmund Warburg’s Voluntary Settlement'.

• Jane Boughton & Anne Fleet

  Jane Boughton was buried in the south transept on 16th November 1614 but nothing marks her grave. She was the widow of William Boughton.

• Eleanor de Bohun, Duchess of Gloucester

  Eleanor de Bohun was a daughter and co-heir of Humphrey, Earl of Hereford, Essex and Northampton and has a fine brass in Westminster Abbey.

• Ann Ferrers

  Ann Ferrers, wife of John Ferrers of Tamworth Castle, was buried in St Paul's chapel in May 1715 but she has no gravestone or monument.

• Sarah Mildmay

  Sarah Mildmay, wife of Humphrey Mildmay of Queen Camel in Somerset, was buried in the south transept, at the entry to St Benedict's chapel.

• Henry Roper

  Musician

  On the wall of the Little Cloister is a memorial to Henry Quittenton Roper, chorister of Westminster Abbey May 1879-November 1884.

• The Nation's Memory

  When Charles Dickens died at his home in Kent on 9th June 1870, it was presumed that he would be buried in Rochester Cathedral or in one of the nearby parish churches at Cobham or Shorne. This, after all, was what the author of some of the greatest novels in the English language had wanted.

• Welbore Ellis, Baron Mendip

  Welbore Ellis, 1st Baron Mendip, Member of Parliament, was buried in the north transept on 7th February 1802. He has no monument or gravestone.

• Thomas of Woodstock, Duke of Gloucester

  The grave of Thomas, Duke of Gloucester, in the chapel of St Edward the Confessor, was originally covered by a brass depicting images of himself.

• David Livingstone

  Writer, Explorer, Physician and Doctor

  David Livingstone, missionary and explorer, died at Ilala in the centre of Africa in May 1873. His grave is in the centre of the Nave.
