There are two people called William Strode commemorated in the Abbey. William Strode (or Stroud), politician, and William Strode, Lieutenant General of His Majesty's forces.

In the nave of Westminster Abbey is a large monument to Lt. General William Hargrave by sculptor Roubiliac. He is shown emerging from his coffin.

On the wall of the East Cloister is a white marble tablet, with a drum, shield and flag to the memory of William Barrell.

Dr John Williams was Dean of Westminster from 1620-1644. He has no monument in the Abbey and he is buried at Llandegai in his native Wales.

In the north choir aisle of Westminster Abbey is a cartouche near the grave of Charles Williams. Sir Charles Hanbury-Williams is also buried here.

In the chapel of St John the Evangelist is the grave of William Moore and his daughter Anna Maria. The inscription has been re-cut.

William Whitfield Dakins, minor canon of Westminster, is buried in the south cloister. The inscription was re-cut in 1950 but is now rather worn.

In the north transept is a monument by Grinling Gibbons to William Cavendish, Duke of Newcastle and his wife Margaret, who were both writers.

The Right Honorable General William Steuart was buried in the vault of the Duke of Buckingham in Henry VII's chapel on 10th June 1726.

A memorial to Lt. General William Anne Villettes was erected in St John the Evangelist's chapel. It was later moved to St Andrew's chapel.

Abbey Marks Shakespeare Anniversary
Monday, 8th August 2016
Westminster Abbey marked the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare with a wreath laying during Matins on Sunday 7th August 2016.

Musician and Composer
The ashes of Ralph Vaughan Williams, eminent British composer, and his second wife Ursula are buried in the north choir aisle of Westminster Abbey.

In the north aisle of the nave is a marble monument to William Morgan and Thomas Mansell. The monument is possibly by sculptor William Stanton.

William Ryley, archivist and herald, was buried in the east cloister of Westminster Abbey on 25th July 1667 but he had no monument or gravestone.

In the centre part of the south transept is a gravestone to William Burnaby, dramatist. The Reform'd Wife was staged at Drury Lane in 1700.

On 11th October 1949 the Baptist Missionary Society gave a carved English walnut lectern to Westminster Abbey in memory of William Carey, missionary in India.
