Dean of Westminster welcomes Archbishop's appointment
Friday, 9th November 2012
On behalf of the Dean and Chapter of Westminster, the Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall welcomed the appointment of the Bishop of Durham, the Right Reverend Justin Welby as the 105th Archbishop of Canterbury.
The Dean said:
In spite of its status as a Royal Peculiar, Westminster Abbey has always enjoyed a close relationship with the Archbishop of Canterbury. This has been particularly true during the past few years when we have been able to welcome Dr Rowan Williams to the Abbey on many occasions of great international significance. We very much look forward to welcoming Justin Welby and assure him of our very best wishes and earnest prayers for his future ministry at a time of great challenge and opportunity for the Church and Nation.
