Dean of Westminster comments on the resignation of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI

The Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall has made the following comment following the news that His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI is to resign on 28th February 2013:

The Pope's resignation is a result of his humility and grace, which I have witnessed. We shall pray for him and for the choice of a successor.
Pope Benedict has advanced strong arguments for faith and reason to go hand in hand - a real service to Christianity and the world.
The Pope's visit to the UK and the Abbey made a memorable contribution to the ecumenical cause and to mutual respect between Christians. The real mutual respect between the Pope and Archbishop Rowan signalled a way of Christian friendship despite obstacles to reconciliation.
