Abbey Choir returns
Friday, 2nd November 2007
The Abbey Choir, seen here in front of the Sydney Opera House, has returned after a hugely successful tour of Australia.
The Dean, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, said:
The choir was a tremendous credit to the Abbey and to the Organist and Master of the Choristers, both in the way the choristers related to the families who looked after them in each of the cities they visited and in the impact of the music they all sang. At their last concert in Perth I sat next to an old man, John Winstanley, an Australian who had been director of music at Harrow School and who turned to me after each item with tears in his eyes to thank me. It was a great privilege on my first visit to Australia not only to meet a great many leaders in church and state and in Anglican education but also to be with the wonderful Abbey choir on a supremely well received tour.
