Westminster Abbey celebrated the 800th anniversary of the birth of Henry III – the builder of the present Abbey church – with an Act of Commemoration and a concert of words and music

The Act of Commemoration, conducted by the Abbey’s Canon Theologian, the Reverend Dr Nicholas Sagovsky, took place in the Shrine, where Henry III is buried alongside Edward the Confessor.

The concert of words and music afterwards featured Gothic Voices, one of the worlds leading ensembles performing medieval music, and Eamon Duffy, Professor of the History of Christianity at the University of Cambridge.

The evening’s events were held in conjunction with King’s College London which organised a weekend of talks about King Henry’s reign.
