Evensong, sung by the St Margaret’s Choristers and Consort
The First Evensong of Ascension Day will be sung by the St Margaret's Choristers and Consort, with music by Marenzio, Smith, Stanford and Haydn.
Established last year, the St Margaret's Choristers is made up of twenty girls aged 11 - 17, drawn from schools across London. The choir sings regularly in St Margaret's Church, performing some of the great cathedral music repertoire alongside the professional musicians of the St Margaret's Consort.
At Wednesday’s service they will become the first girl choristers of Westminster Abbey to raise their voices as part of the daily round of worship which the Abbey has offered for centuries.
The service is held on the eve of Ascension Day, when we celebrate Christ's ascension into Heaven, forty days after Easter.
