Walter Jones

Dr Walter Jones, Sub Dean of Westminster, was buried near his seat in the Quire of Westminster Abbey on 15th July 1672 but he had no marker. He was the eldest son of John Jones of Worcester and his wife Ann (Dews). Educated at Oxford he was installed as prebendary of Westminster in 1660. In 1643 he married, at Christ Church cathedral Oxford, Philippa (died 1683), daughter of the Reverend Dr Samuel Fell, Dean of Christ Church. He was also Sub Dean of the Chapel Royal. Son Richard was baptised in the Abbey on 10th December 1663 and he had two other sons. Daughter Anne married Dr William Lloyd (later King's chaplain and bishop of St Asaph and of Worcester) in the Abbey on 3rd December 1668 and she died in 1719. Daughter Elizabeth married Benjamin Marshall, fishmonger of London, in the Abbey on 7th February 1676 and had four children.
