Thomas Whitney and family
Several members of the family of Whitney were married, baptised and buried at St Margaret's church Westminster. There are no memorials or gravestones for the family surviving. The following show entries from the parish registers for the period 1538-1600 including many from the family of Thomas Whitney (married 1583, buried in 1637). At this period very little information is recorded in the registers and spelling of the name can vary. Spelling has been standardized here. The mother's first name is not given in any baptism entries until 1639. Burial entries at this time do not normally say whether the person is a child or an adult.

This Thomas, gentleman of Westminster, leased tenements from the Dean and Chapter of Westminster from 1606 and in 1635 he had property in King Street and Sayes Alley near the Abbey (both streets were swept way in the 19th century). The illustration shows the bond in the Westminster Abbey archives signed by Thomas, John Whitney and others in 1632 (Westminster Abbey Muniment 28586 which has his seal also). His sons Robert and Francis were his executors. Their signatures and seals are shown on the other illustration (WAM 28671 dated 1637). Another son John emigrated to America.
