Thomas Crawfurd
Thomas Crawfurd (or Crawford) was buried in the north quire aisle of Westminster Abbey on 13th November 1724 but he has no readable gravestone. The stone is in front of the Le Neve monument in that aisle.
He was the eldest son of Patrick Crawfurd, merchant in Edinburgh (third son of David, 6th Laird of Drumsoy in Ayrshire, Scotland) and his first wife, a daughter of Gordon of Turnberry. His brother was Robert, well known author of Tweedside and other popular Scottish ballads. He was some time Secretary to the British Embassy in Paris and was appointed resident Envoy at the French court on 3rd July 1722. He died unmarried on 1st October aged 38 at Fontainebleau. It is not clear why he was buried in the Abbey.
