Stephen, 2nd Baron Catto
Stephen, 2nd Baron Catto of Cairncatto was a generous benefactor to the Westminster Abbey Restoration Appeal and served as a Trustee. In Henry VII's chapel is a small stained glass window, by Peter Archer and Alfred Fisher, which shows his coat of arms, motto 'Touch not Gloveles' and a figure of a tiger with the name 'BARON CATTO'.
His coat of arms also appears in the large west window of this chapel (lower row, third from the south). On the exterior of the apse of the Abbey is a small carved head, together with others who were members of the Westminster Abbey Trust but this cannot be seen easily.
His father Thomas, 1st Baron Catto was a governor of the Bank of England. The Lord Catto was born on 14th January 1923 and was educated at Eton and Cambridge and served in the RAF. Later he was chairman of Morgan Grenfell holdings and Yule Catto & Co and director of News International. He also served the RAF Benevolent Fund, and was married three times with several children. He died in 2001 and a memorial service was held for him in the Abbey on 27th November.
