Sir William Dodson

Sir William Dodson was buried in the south aisle of the nave of Westminster Abbey on 16th October 1695. He was a woollen draper of St Paul's churchyard, Alderman of London and Colonel of a City regiment and was knighted in 1680. In 1667 he married Elizabeth Brewer, widow of John Briscoe, but they had no children. He left his estate to his brother John. His gravestone was removed when the nave was re-paved in 1834 but the inscription reads:

Here lyeth interred the body of Sir William Dodson, Knight. Obiit 9 Oct. A.D. 1695
