Sir Reginald Pullen

The ashes of Sir Reginald Pullen K.C.V.O. were buried in the north cloister of Westminster Abbey during his memorial service on 12th November 1996.

He came to the Abbey in 1947 and was assistant to the chief accountant Tom Hebron and he married his daughter (Doreen) Angela in the Abbey on 3rd April 1948. She was buried with him on 8th October 2007. Their children are Rosalind and Sandra.

The grave adjoins that of Tom and Eva Hebron. The inscription reads:

Reginald Pullen KCVO 1922-1996 Receiver General 1959-1987. I have loved the habitation of thy house. And also his wife Angela Lady Pullen nee Hebron 1927-2007

The stone adjoining reads:

Tom Hebron C.B.E. M.V.O. 19 February 1894 22 September 1980 Registrar and Receiver General. The Abbey was his life. Also his wife Eva Hebron 14 July 1895 2 February 1979

His life

He was the son of William Pullen of Falmouth in Cornwall and his wife Lillian and was born on 17th February 1922. He was educated locally and at King's College London and during the war served as a Flight Lieutenant RAF Volunteer Reserve (special cypher duties). As well as a much loved and hospitable Receiver General he was Chapter Clerk 1963-1987, Registrar 1964-1984, Deputy High Bailiff of Westminster from 1987 and Warden of the United Westminster Almshouses in Rochester Row after his retirement. He died suddenly on 25th September 1996.

His coat of arms appears in the west window of the Lady Chapel. This large window shows shields and initials of many associated with the Westminster Abbey Appeal for the restoration of the fabric which ran from 1973-1995.

Tom Hebron

He was born at Gillingham in Kent, a son of William Hebron, and was educated at Westminster City School. During the Great War he served in the Royal Engineers. From 1912 he worked as a clerk and cashier at the Abbey and by 1938 he was Chief Accountant. After the Second World War he was appointed Registrar until retiring in 1964. He was Receiver General from 1958-1959. He married Eva Greenbury in 1918.
