Sir Joseph Tredenham
Sir Joseph Tredenham, Member of Parliament for St Mawes in Cornwall, was buried in the south aisle of the nave of Westminster Abbey. His grave is opposite the monument to Carola Morland but his gravestone is no longer readable. The original inscription on this was:
Here lyes the body of Sir Joseph Tredenham, Kt. who dyed Aprill the 25th 1707 in the 65th year of his age.
He was descended from a family who owned the manor of Tredenham in the parish of Probus in Cornwall and was a son of John Tredenham, attorney, of Philleigh, and his wife Elizabeth (Molesworth). His brother was William. He was governor of St Mawes 1678-1696, one of the controllers of the Army accounts from 1703, Gentleman of the Privy Chamber and Vice Warden of the stanneries. In 1666 he married Elizabeth daughter of Sir Edward Seymour, 3rd Baronet of Berry Pomery in Devon. Their son Seymour died before his father but son John (1668-1710) became a politician and married Anne Lloyd. Their daughters were Elizabeth (Nicholls) and Mary.
