Sarah English
On the north west pillar in St Margaret's church Westminster is a cartouche to Sarah English. This has been attributed to sculptor Robert Hartshorne (II). Below are cherub heads and skulls and above is a coat of arms. This shows "on a lozenge azure a lion rampant, in chief three mullets argent" impaling "azure on a fess argent three fleur de lis in annulets of the first, between three saltires or". She was buried in the middle chancel of the church.
The inscription reads:
"Near this place lyes the body of Mrs Sarah English who departed this life on Wensday November the 5th 1729 in the fifty fifth year of her age"
Unfortunately we know nothing further about her. Her will is in the National Archives, Kew, Surrey.
