Rowland Laugharne

Major General Rowland Laugharne, politician, was buried in the mid chancel of St Margaret's Church Westminster on 16th November 1675, although he died in poverty. But he has no memorial or marker.  He was born about 1607, son of John of St Brides in Wales and his wife Janet (Owen).

He was a page to Robert Devereux, 3rd Earl of Essex. In the army he was at first a Parliamentarian, following Cromwell, but then changed to the Royalist side. He was Member of Parliament for Pembroke and governor of the castle there. His wife was Anne (died 1681) daughter of Sir Thomas Button of Glamorgan and they had three sons, but only one, Rowland, survived infancy. Rowland married Theodosia Wray and his son John (an M.P. who died in 1715) married Anne Wogan and had two sons.
