Roger Nightingale
Roger Nightingale, one of the Gentlemen of His Majesty's Chapel Royal 1619-1642 and 1660-1661 and Confessor to the King's Household, was buried in the east cloister of Westminster Abbey on 28th November 1661 but he has no marker.
He was probably the boy of this name who was a chorister at Ely cathedral in 1604 and may have been a minor canon at St Paul's cathedral. A bass singer he was among musicians in the Corporation of Musick in Westminster. At the outbreak of the Civil War he took residence with his old friend John Williams, Bishop of Lincoln (and later Dean of Westminster). He attended the coronation of Charles II in 1661.
