Nicholas Oudart

Nicholas Oudart was buried in the west cloister of Westminster Abbey on 21st December 1681 but has no marker. He was born at Malines (Mechlin) in Belgium, a supposed son of Nicholas Oudart of Brussels.

Sir Henry Wotton brought him to England as a pageboy and he attended Oxford university and studied medicine. He became secretary to Sir William Boswell at The Hague and then to Sir Edward Nicholas, Secretary of State. On the Isle of Wight he was with Charles I and secretary to Princess Mary of Orange. Later he served Charles II and was elected Fellow of the Royal Society and knew Samuel Pepys.

His wife was Eva Tortarolis and daughter Barbara married William Foster, Amelia married Bartholomew Van Sittert and Dorothy was unmarried. He died at a house he leased from the Dean and Chapter of Westminster in Little Dean's Yard in the Abbey precincts.
