Michael and John Evans

The Reverend Michael Evans was a Canon and Sub Dean of Westminster from 1702-1732 and was buried in the south aisle of the nave of Westminster Abbey in August 1732 aged about eighty. He was a son of Maurice Evans of Westminster. After attending Westminster School he went on to Oxford university and became vicar of St Bride's church in London in 1710. No gravestone remains but the site was in front of John Smith's monument.

His brother John was buried in the north cloister of the Abbey on 13th April 1727. He was a merchant and married at St Giles in the Fields church Dame Mary Hussey (a daughter of Sir John Buckworth, alderman of London, and widow of Sir William Hussey, ambassador to Turkey). She was buried with him on 16th June 1731. No grave inscription was recorded for any of the family.

His sister Susan (Glover) was buried with him on 25th February 1740 aged 77. His nephew Thomas Glover, son of his sister Susan, was buried on 22nd November 1733. It was to him that he bequeathed his estates in Radnor and Shropshire. Thomas held the manor of Stanley Hall and lands in Essex. To nephew John Glover he gave his library of books and sermons and he was buried in the south aisle aged 51 on 16th May 1740. Susan's daughter Mary married Richard Wright of the Inner Temple at St Bride's church.
