James Lambe
The Reverend James Lambe, Oriental scholar and Arabic expert, was buried near the pulpit stairs in Westminster Abbey on 20th October 1664 but he has no monument or marker. He was son of Richard Lambe of Oxford and his second wife. Educated in his native town he was chaplain to Thomas, 4th Earl of Southampton and rector of Botley in Hampshire and vicar of Titchfield. He was installed prebendary (clergyman) of the Abbey in 1660 and was later rector at St Andrew's, Holborn in London. He married Elizabeth Beeston (nee Bromfield) but they had no children. He acted as step father to William Beeston who became Lt. Governor of Jamaica.
