Frederic, Baron Schulenberg

Frederic William, Baron Schulenberg (also known as Friedrich Wilhelm von der Schulenburg) was buried in the south transept of Westminster Abbey on 14th January 1720. He has no monument or gravestone.

He was born on 24th January 1680 in Emden (Borde) near Magdeburg in Germany, the son of Gustav Adolf, Baron von der Schulenberg. He was half-brother to Melusine, the favourite mistress of George I, created Duchess of Kendal. In Hanover he was chamberlain to the king and came to England when George assumed the English throne. He died at the Palace on 3rd January aged 37 (according to his coffin plate), having, according to newspapers of the day, gone to bed at 12 in perfect health but found dead two hours later. His wife was Sophia Anna de Melville and their children were Nympha Ehrengarde de Schulenberg, Ernest, Alexander and George.

He has a large memorial in St Georg's church, Emden (Borde).
