Elizabeth de Vere, Countess of Derby

Lady Elizabeth de Vere, Countess of Derby, was the eldest daughter of Edward 17th Earl of Oxford by his first wife Anne, daughter of William Cecil, Lord Burghley, and was buried in the chapel of St Nicholas in Westminster Abbey on 11th March 1627. She has no gravestone or memorial.

She was born on 2nd July and baptised on 10th July 1575 and married William Stanley, 6th Earl of Derby, at Greenwich. Two of their daughters were buried in the same chapel - Catherine, who died young, was buried on 20th March 1609, and Anne, Countess of Ancrum.

The Earl died on 29th September 1642 and was buried at Chester and his body was later moved to Ormskirk. Son James succeeded to the title.

Elizabeth's sister Susan, Countess of Montgomery was also buried in the chapel.
