Edward Webber

On the wall of the Dark Cloister of Westminster Abbey is a marble tablet in memory of Edward Webber, a King's Scholar at Westminster School. He was a son of James Webber (died 1847), Sub Dean of the Abbey, and his wife Caroline (Fynes-Clinton). He was baptised at St Margaret's Westminster. His brothers William, Cyril, and Charles and sister Jemima were all baptised in the Abbey. Edward was buried in the north cloister on 17th June 1833. The Latin inscription can be translated:

Here is buried Edward Augustus Webber, second son of James Webber, D.D. Dean of Ripon and Prebendary of this Church. Their little boat was overturned by a storm in the river Thames: of the four young men who were plunged into the water, one perished, on 11th June 1833, in the course of his 17th year. For a most charming, most sorely missed, pupil (his wretched parents were not able to do this) his tutors and fellow pupils, lamenting his loss as though he were a brother, as is the pious custom at Westminster, performed the obsequies
