Edward Grant
The Reverend Edward Grant was a prebendary of Westminster from 1577-1601, Sub-Dean, and Head Master of Westminster School 1572-1593. He was buried in the north transept of Westminster Abbey in August 1601, having died on 4th. He has no marker. Educated at Westminster School and Cambridge university he was Rector at several places and prebendary of Ely cathedral. An author and noted scholar he was a friend of Roger Ascham. His wife Susan died in 1611. They had several children including John, Rector of Benefield in Northampton, Gabriel who became a prebendary of Westminster 1612-1638, Susanna who married the Reverend John Dix, Sarah who died unmarried and Edward who was buried in the cloisters in 1588. (William Camden in his guide to the Abbey of 1600 records an epitaph for young Edward where he is described as a most beautiful child, the dear delight of his mother and darling of his father). Gabriel married twice and had children Edward, Gabriel (buried in the Abbey in 1622), Susan and Elizabeth).
