Edmund Nelham was a Minor Canon at Westminster Abbey from 1616-1643 and was buried in the cloisters (place unknown) on 17th August 1646.
He sang as a bass in the Abbey choir from 1617-1642 and was a Gentleman at the Chapel Royal, and epistoler there from 1616. He attended the funeral of James I in 1625. Some of his musical compositions were published in John Hilton junior's collection of catches and rounds (1652). At the time of the English Civil War he stayed 'in town' and took the Covenant when the Abbey came under Parliamentary control in 1643.
His wife Catherine was buried on 8th January 1667 and her will was proved by Mary Taylor, sole legatee. A Nicholas Nelham, son of Edmund, was baptised in St Margaret's Westminster on 4th December 1625 but it is not known if this was his child (no mother's name is given in the register).
