Anne Incledon
In the south aisle of St Margaret's church Westminster is a marble cartouche to Anne Incledon, wife of John. The arms shown are:
argent, a chevron engrailed sable between three tuns of the last, from the bung of each a flame paly of three argent and sable, on a chief gules a lion passant of the first
The Latin inscription can be translated:
Below here lies Anne Incledon, the deservedly most beloved wife of John Incledon, daughter of John Wynyard, Gent., Warden of the Royal Hospital of Westminster by his second wife Margaret, daughter of Thomas Ketleby, Gent.,; who, throughout those civil wars, by very many instances of his courage and loyalty deserved supremely well of his King and country. Charles II, of his royal bounty, at the death of John Wynyard, bestowed the aforesaid office upon Margaret, and subsequently upon her three daughters Grace, Elizabeth and Anne; but Anne alone survived her father and eventually succeeded to the post. After she had fulfilled to the utmost all the duties of a daughter, a wife, a mother, an excellent woman, she died on the 20th Dec. 1705 in the 37th year of her age, for ever worthy to be remembered and missed by her most loving husband, on account of her modesty, integrity, prudence and singular piety. Here also lie the four sons and three little daughters of John and Anne Incledon, all truly Christian children, who all predeceased their mother. Here also lies John Incledon, Gent; he died the 19th Feb. in the year of Our Lord 1719/20 in his 60th year.
Anne's father John Wynyard is buried in Westminster Abbey.
