HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, opened the Field of Remembrance on Thursday - the 78th year the Abbey has hosted this unique tribute to the soldiers, sailors and aircrew who have died in the service of their country.

He was welcomed by the Sub Dean, Canon Robert Wright who introduced Canon Nicholas Sagovsky, Canon Jane Hedges, and the Receiver General Maj Gen David Burden together with the President of the Royal British Legion Poppy Factory Mrs Sara Jones (widow of the Parachute Regiment's Falklands VC hero Lt Col Herbert 'H' Jones) and Air Marshal Ian Macfadyen, President of the Royal British Legion. The Duke of Edinburgh laid a Cross of Remembrance and toured the North Green plots before signing the St Margaret's Church visitor book.
