The Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend Dr John Hall, welcomed The Lord Mayor of Westminster and Deputy High Steward of the Abbey, Councillor Audrey Lewis, and other City of Westminster councillors to Westminster Abbey for the Civic Service on Sunday 6th July. The annual service marks the historic links between Westminster Abbey and the City of Westminster.

The Bidding was given by the Dean, who also pronounced the Blessing. The Address was given by the Lord Mayor’s Chaplain, the Very Reverend Michael Persson.

Lessons were read by the Leader of Westminster City Council, Cllr Philippa Roe (Isaiah 49: 8–18); and the Lord Mayor’s Consort (Revelation 21: 22–22: 5).

Prayers were led by the Reverend Dr James Hawkey, Minor Canon and Precentor of Westminster, and were said by the Reverend Professor Vernon White, Canon of Westminster; Laura Solomons, West London Synagogue; and Shakeel Ahmed Kunwar, The Islamic Cultural Centre and The London Central Mosque.

The service was sung by the Choir of Westminster Abbey conducted by the Organist and Master of the Choristers, James O’Donnell. The organ was played by Daniel Cook, Sub-Organist. Music before the service was played by Martin Ford, Assistant Organist.
A collection was taken for the Sir Simon Milton Foundation.
