Westminster Abbey is continuing its work in the local community by running a work placement scheme in partnership with the Cardinal Hume Centre. The placements are designed to enable local people to gain valuable work experience and develop new skills.

In July, two young people were selected at interview for placements in the Abbey’s Visitor Services department, and spent a week welcoming visitors as part of the audio-guide team. A further two candidates took up placements in August, and will continue to work at the Abbey until late October.

The Cardinal Hume Centre is a charity which enables people to gain the skills they need to overcome poverty and homelessness. It works with homeless young people, families in need and local people in Westminster, giving them the support they need to realise their full potential.

Following the success of this summer’s placements, the Abbey is considering how it can continue to work with charities and other organisations to offer further placements.
