James McVinnie is the Assistant Organist of Westminster Abbey. He has held Organ Scholarships at St Albans Cathedral, Clare College, Cambridge (where he read music), and St Paul’s Cathedral. He is the Organ Tutor at Dulwich College and Director of Music at St Andrew’s, Holborn.
As organist to the Choir of Clare College, James performed at venues and music festivals throughout the UK, Europe, the USA, and the Far East. He also features on their recordings of Tarik O'Regan's choral music (Collegium), John Rutter's Mass of the Children (Naxos), and S S Wesley's choral music (Naxos). He is organist on recordings made by the St Albans Abbey Girls Choir (Lammas), as well as an album of Richard Allain's choral music with the National Youth Choir of Great Britain and Laudibus (Delphian). In October last year he recorded a disc of S S Wesley's organ music on the 1873 Willis organ of St Michael's, Tenbury, for the Naxos label.
James has an increasingly busy schedule as an organ soloist and continuo player. He studies the organ with Thomas Trotter.
